A.B. Kinwell

I'm A.B. Kinwell, and I like to describe myself as an idealist with a pessimistic nature. I work to capture this dichotomy in my writing, where my characters struggle with moralism, expectations, and fear. I gravitate to the high fantasy horror genre because it gives me the opportunity to explore darker themes while staying within the comfort of my hobbies: conlanging and worldbuilding. With a focus on anthropology and linguistics, my worlds can be described as Pictish: unmastered, unsettling, and unknown.

I'm a U.S. born UK resident currently living in the countryside with my lovely husband. We spend our days together going on long walks, foraging mushrooms and nettles, and playing videogames. In my own time, I sew clothes, write books, and study. I am finishing up my BA in English and creative writing, and will soon be off to try my hand at an MFA.

I've been writing since I can remember. My first book was seven pages ripped out of a notebook and stapled together, a misspelled narrative of a young princess who runs away from her castle so she can find a dragon to burn down her brother's house. I have since learned a bit more about nuance, but I still write what I know... ha.
